Day Off - Austin, Texas

Although Austin is the state capital of Texas, and one time home to a Governor George W. Bush, the city remains a liberal and cultural hub in Texas, and a live music Mecca known the world over. South by Southwest, one of the country’s great music and art festivals, is hosted in Austin, which has only elevated the town’s reputation as the place for live bands to heard by those who care to listen.

We had a day off before our show in Austin, so we headed there to explore the city, especially 6th street, essentially a classy Texan version of Bourbon Street, minus the empty containers on the streets. When the evening hit, we walked up and down 6th Street where a barrage of barmen and beautiful young ladies stood in the doorways of compacted venues vying for our cash. We caught a song or two of a few good blues bands and had a few drinks. After a few hours of walking the strip and popping in and out of clubs and bars we had enough for the evening and retired to a cozy Motel 6.
