Dente Engineering

 Dente Engineering

Project Overview

Dente Engineering is my father’s Geotechnical Engineering business located in Upstate New York. I have done everything from sweep the floors to test concrete core samples at Dente Engineering. More recently, I have helped the company by designing and developing an identity system and Web site.

The Web site design represents the layers of the earth, the very materials Dente Engineering works with when designing slopes and building foundations. The site’s goals are simple; to present information about their services and their staff in a simple straightforward manner.

Logo

The logo design is a literal representation of man-made materials extending beyond, and into, the layers of the earth. This logo was designed in 2002.Dente Engineering

SIFR Titles

The identity system’s typeface is Univers Condensed, designed by Adrian Frutiger. To carry the use of this font through to some of the details in the Web site, I used SIFR, a “Flash Replacement” tool for designing Web standards compliant pages that have rich typographical features.Dente Engineering

Texture (left)

Each section of the Web site presents images of different rock textures, accentuating the visual themes of depth and layers of earth. This design technique also helps users associate a section with an image, a tool for helping users understand their sense of place within a system.
